Female musical talent ( of previous weeks)

Vök

Hatari brought many gray things to my life, including Vök. Einar is very talented, and it’s good to see him in this very different sound but still electronic. And Márgret’s voice works really well with those sounds.

Wir Sind Helden

The spirit of the 90’s was also kicking it in Hamburg, although this band was formed in the 00s. Judith’s voice reminds me of the Some Girls girls, and those simple and fund melodies.

You Love Her Coz She’s Dead

Another duo from the electro 8 bit with short haired girl that came with Crystal Castles. Sorry, I get repetitive too. But they’re fun at least.

Zee Avi

The sweetest voice from Malaysia, I haven’t seen the first drama from the country but I bet they use a lot of her songs because she’s just so dreamy.

8 Kids

I think this is post hardcore, I’m not good at classifying this but the amazing drummer you hear here is the super kick ass Emma McLellan.

Аигел

This is a hip hop duo a bit more hardcore and street like than Ic3peak, and the name comes from the vocalist who is also a poet and extremely gorgeous (I know that’s not the point but I really like her). I also read somewhere that her ex was in jail for a murder case so yeah, hardcore.

Asobi Seksu

Dream pop delivered by a Japanese goddess. The band was too perfect to exist in our current times, but left us some pretty amazing songs that are so pure and almost childlike but in the most amazing way.

Biig Piig

This Irish singer is one cool girl. She moved to Spain when she was younger so she also has a few songs in Spanish and I think her style is pretty fresh and fun.

Claire Laffut

She started her career as a model, you can really tell by her face, and that style she got from there is so well translated to her songs. Her voice is so delicate and smooth.

Coma_cose

I don’t know too much about them except they’re extremely cool and they’re from Milan and they drop bars like there’s no tomorrow.

Connie Francis

This Italian American singer from the good old days became famous to me because of her English version of the song “Je ne pourrais vivre jamais sans toi” from that movie that I can’t really remember the title of but it’s the Cherbourg one. You know it. And Connie’s version is included in that awful heartbreaking episode in Futurama when we know that the poor doggie stayed waiting for his human FOREVER. And it’s all so sad.

Crim3s

Another Crystal Castles like band, but this one is a bit darker because they got together while being homeless and that’s where their inspiration came from. I really hope their music helped them with their situation.

Dakooka

Украина дома! I don’t know if that’s correct grammatically but we have some Ukrainian girl power with Dakooka. Ekaterina went to music school and was in some TV music shows and maybe one day she’ll get her big break after this whole thing passes.

Destroy Boys

A cool punk band with a pretty funny band but with an attitude I don’t like towards the name. I don’t think they’re my type of people, but they’re my type of music.

Florrie

Another hot drummer, she has been working with some pop icons and it truly shows. Her songs have incredibly catchy beats and her voice is super strong. I guess she should dance to be more popular, I’m not really sure what’s missing in her formula, but she’s on the right path of making quality music.

Gang Gang Dance

This is a pretty funky band that mixes several genres into their music, I don’t know too much about them but their experimental music works.

Garmarna

A typical old folk band with the usual Swedish nordic tunes. I don’t know too much about it but I’m starting to enjoy them.

Hoshi

A chanteuse from Versailles, inspired by Japanese culture, she chose her stage name and earned some fame with her pop music and also because she was outed without her approval. Not cool. But she’s extremely cool.

HTRK

Now we go down to Melbourne, with this super enigmatic band. The first song I listened of them was “Rentboy” and ooof, was that song sexy and sad and everything at the same time. Then I read that they started the band to make songs inspired by Lynch films and it all made sense.

IAMAMIWHOAMI

And back to Sweden, Jonna Lee worked with another guy whose name I can’t remember to create this super artistic audiovisual project with some really interesting conceptual videos. It was very The Knife-y and of great quality.

If The Kids

Coming from Paris and taking their name from a punk song, I think their prime passed but when they were having fun making music they made some pretty cool tunes and this song is such a great anthem to come out of the closet.

Kælan Mikla

And here are the coolest darkest girls from Reykjavik! I wouldn’t know how to classify their music but they’re sooooo witchy and punk and cool and amazing!

Lacrosse

And then going back to continental Europe, we have the dorkiest most adorable band of Stockholm. They’re like if Broken Social Scene had fallen into honey.

Le Couleur

And I finish this post in Montreal, with a very nostalgic band that has the sound of how I imagine the city. This is not my favorite song of them but I couldn’t find the official video, but there’s this adorable version with singers daughter of “Femme” and it’s just 🥰
